Creative Assembly and Games Workshop REALLY knows how to sell. This video shows 3 (or is it 4??) iconic armies in the Warhammer universe that will have their fans slavering for. Dark Elves, High Elves, LIZARDMEN…. Skaven. The original Total War: Warhammer lured me into buying it on day 1, without ever having played a Total War series game, or even knowing too much about it. I just knew that it was a turn-based strategy game with real-time army combat with Warhammer armies.
And that was my mistake.
Don’t get me wrong, TWW is a great game, but it is punishingly hard and different than other turn-based strategy games I’ve played, such as Heroes of Might and Magic. Unlike Heroes, TWW normally places you beset on all sides by enemies, instead of giving you a nice secluded spot away from early attack. Your ‘friends’ will also not hesitate to backstab you when you’re at your weakest; the game actually keeps track of whether a person is deceitful or not and the AI will play accordingly! The AI is much better, who will lure your main army away from your towns and then pillage them while your back is turned. Before you start your journey in TWW, I’d recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to play, but sometimes the greatest teacher is real experience!
